When u have been away from a place for some time, u will be happy to see something or someone there again.

Although I have not left Malaysia for long, 2 things happened today that reminded me of my life in Malaysia.

 

1) Today i had mee goreng. MAN....I miss not Malaysian food but food from Malaysia. Whats the Difference?When we eat mee goreng in Malaysia, we usually think of 2 types. The Malay and the Mamak mee gorreng. Today.....what i actually ate is a mixtures 3 different culture. Malay Chinese and Indian....and let me tell u....it sucks. taste weird. The chinese char mee not spicy , Malay usually sweet and a little spicy (use tomato a lot) and Mamak one is spicy. the mee goreng i had is a half mixture of everything. Its Malaysian food but NOT food from Malaysia. haih sad.

 

2) In you tube today, i found an old series i watched before. actually not that old la. It Korean and its called Something About 1%. I can still remember when I watched in the Raya holidays in 05 on RTM2. Why i remember? its easy. My whole family went to Beijing for Holiday and i did not get to go because SPM was coming. so i went to my grandma's house to live and there was no astro there so must watch on tv2,at 6pm.  but it is a very nice show. i recommend it :P

 

so, i realize that i'm doing things that i used to do in Malaysia. watching dramas that i've watched before, 'stalking' yang cheng lin online. this gives me a feeling of familiarity. its like listening to Michael Learns To Rock. their songs always invoke childhood memory in me. weird

I realized that my blog looks very depressing....so i changed it .... i know i know...u guys don't like the back ground.

ok i'll now tell u gusy what i've been up to this few weeks beside the usual (classes and Drama)LOL

last friday, i went bowling with some friends. That night in the alley, there were laser light show. imagine this.....you are bowling in the dark.....and there is MTV playing.

kinda of cool. first time I ever seen anything like this. anyway....we won't talk about my score. I SUCKED at bowling. :P

 

on the 8th, i went to Michigan City..... we actually only planned to go shopping but our bus driver introduce us to some place. this is at the side of Michigan Lake and when u think of lakeside, we usually think of green grass and mud right? well.....this lake side is actually a sand dune. the sand is very fine and the water.....coldd!!!!! it was fun.

 

although we went shoppin i didn't buy a lot. just a few shirts. but i realized somethin.... we have a tendency to go abck to things we are familiar with. (i keep looking at striped clothes...weird)

the weather is getting cold again... wonder how long it will last this time.

 

talkin bout weather reminded me of something.

Last thursday we received an email talking bout an incoming storm. we are advised to stay away from south west windows (thats where i'm next to now) then later at night... there was a siren. it went on for like 15 minutes. at that time i was talking to may and i thought the siren was just a test or maybe it came from the construction side. i opened my door but can see nothing so i went back in. on friday night, when i was talking to my friends..... only I realized. It was a warning siren. the storm is coming and we are all required to go the basement.  WOW.... good thing nothing happened. it was just a precaution measure. next time must be more seng mok....cannot stupid liao hahahahahh

 

anyway guys, don't worry bout me. the storm has passed and the only thing wrong now is the cold weather :(

I made BAK CHANG this morning........actually not really la. my seniors they cook and i just packed it. but thats also a first.

 

i've also started rewatching Devil Beside You. went and watch a fan vid (damn lot of Kissing in this series) on youtube made me realize i missed it. so rewatch

didn't bring mine over so need to watch on tudou. haih ....wat a pain.

Yesterday Rainie had her celeberatory concert. and from what i have seen so far .....its amazing!!!!!!

she really prove herself as a dancer and improved in her singing. i can't wait for the concert to be shown on tv.......then i get to download.

 

 

but i'm kinda of sad..... this concert signals that she is nearing the end of her promo period. i'm going to be so bored. nothing to look foward to. sad.  

(but at least i still have qiao qiao's shows to look foward to. 2!!!!)

 

today, i finally did something that i did not do for over 2 years. I WENT BACK INTO A TRACK!!!!!!! I realize i do really miss track and fields. just standing on the track....i felt overwhelm. However, today, i didn't go back as a participant. instead i worked as an official but i will be back next year in my spike on a track. That is  a promise i will keep. its something that i really need to do.  weird.

 

working as an official on the field gave me a new insight to T&F. Its not as easy as it seems. so to all the officials out there who do it day in day out.... i SALUTE u.

 

BTW, my plan to go to Chicago this thanksgiving seems to be taking shape quite well. we found a free place to stay.. NICE!!!!

 

tomorrow, i'm going to a Chinese test out. i'm going to see what is my standard of Chinese is. Wish me luck. Hope i don't embarass mysef.

 

after being here for more than a month, I realized I did not really suffer any big culture shock.

things here are not that different from Malaysia. Maybe its because i'm still living with Asians. Unlike 1 of my friend in IU Bloomington.(Go visit her blog...(http://theworldthrumymind.blogspot.com/) Now thats what i call culture shock.

 

Howerver, I did see something different. Over here, everyone has an Ipod - Nano, Mini, Shuffle.......everywhere you can see people with earphones stuck on(in) their ear listening to something. According to May, its called the Ipod Culture. My school paper - the Exponent- even did a review on this.

 

Another thing that is different is something that a friend of mine had told me before i came here. Hairdressers here do not know how to cut stylish hair for guys. Think an Asian Male Artist ......their hair are usually very stylish, spiky.......However, over here the guys can be divided into 2 groups. Crew cut and long hair. Maybe be not really a crew cut....but thats wat i feel. the front part of their hair is very short and is on their forehead not spiky. Weird..... Week 4

 

This is now my forth week here. Some classes are getting more and more boring. Especially Bio. God. I hate bio. And the test is coming next week. Haih wat to do. But this a  very eventful week. I got 3 vey important things happened. First, I finally received my SSN. Now, I can start working and get my cell. Second. My laptop is coming!!!!!!!!! Finally. And Third …….. Yang Cheng Lin’s newest album is coming out!!!!!!!! It cost USD 30 to buy her album here. Hell. I’m getting my sis to buy it in Penang. 

Well needless to say after getting laptop I’m so excited. On that day (Wednesday), after my first class, I went back to my room to wait for my pc. It is said that it will arrive by 10.30. That’s before my second class. But sadly, it did not arrive. I reluctantly went to class. Haih. I didn’t go after that class. I had a tutor session with Kee Koon. (I don’t understand CHE 205 help!!!!) after the tutor session, I went to check the shipping status and YES my laptop has arrive and my roommate has collected it. It came at 10.45. Can I sue FedEx? (emotional distress)LOL. However, I was unable to go straight back to my pc. I still had classes and assignments. The CHE205 homework is tough. I have a seminar class that day. Prof Hillhouse is talking bout undergrad research. I realized that he is doing some interesting research. My seniors advised me to go talk to him and other prof about their research. Gonna do that soon. (haih….. there doesn’t seem to be enough time to do everything – Research or internship)

After my seminar class… me and Jarrod spend another 2 hours on our CHE205 homework. So hard. I dunno how to do. Even with the help of all other ChE seniors. (but thanks anyway for your help) by 7.30 I can’t stand anymore. I went back home and lo and behold….. sitting on top of my desk…… my laptop. J YAY.

Needless to say I started installing stuff. Bitcomet, IDA…….. starting downloads J

However, after a while I realize that I forgot to make a recovery disk. So I ended up stopping everything and created the disc. I also got back to my homework. Had some extra help and finally finish it. At around 1.30am. Haih…..no time to play with my pc any more. The next morning I woke up around 5.30 and started setting up my pc. Then I went to class. I love prof Blanchard. She ended the class early. So off I go back to my dorm.  Man is the internet fast. I finished 2 episodes done. So I watched 1. Man I love them. So nice to watch. Just like DBY. However, I need to stop then. The stupid Resnet bandwidth monitoring program is not VISTA compatible. (I actually don’t like Vista. I can’t find my files) So I need to monitor my bandwidth manually. But after class I went back to restart it.

That day after my first class I went back to my dorm. Too tired. Took a nap and then go to CHE205 recitation. Screw up the quiz. Wats wrong with me and quizzes I can’t understand. But I managed to do all the questions in the sample examination. That’s good…. I watch quite a few episodes of Why the whole day. I also went to our Purdue gym for a jog. My condition is very bad. I can now only run at half of my old speed. 1.5km at in 15 minutes. So sad. Must start the training again.

That night I also talked to May and Corrinne using skype. We had a good time talk around an hour. My poor roommate Jenny. She was trying to study and I was there laughing. Sorry. Huey Sywu also call me up to go to the football game this Sat. Purdue vs Eastern Illonois. It’s a sure win.

Friday. Went to class early morning finally able to sleep until 6.30 for a change. The exercise worked. Must do it more often.  Had a pop-qiuz for IE343. And classes end early. Me and jarrod went to see ms Veronica about transferring our CSC101 as ENGR126. If it works then is will be heaven. Gonna know next week. Fingers crossed.

When I came home….. my upload rate was too high. I can’t do anything. If I pass it then I’ll get a warning letter. So sad. But still I get to watch the rest of Why.

Sat. Today is the day of the game. I went to the Settlement (Huey Sywu’s apartment) for Lunch before heading to the game. We missed the first quarter and by the time we reach the stadium we are leading 17-3. Purdue managed to score another 2 touchdown before half time. It was pretty interesting in my first ever football game. The fans are very committed and excited bout the game. Even the rain didn’t dampen their spirits. But after half time it was announce that the game was suspended due to lightning storm. We are all evacuated from the stadium. It was raining heavily by then and we all ran back to the Settlement. There we changed out of our wet clothes and had the steamboat going again. J

That night I went to a church service. Our PUMSA treasurer is a member of this church. I had fun there and the food is nice. Around 9.30 I went back to PV(purdue village-that’s where I’m living) took a bath and resume watching Why.  [ Note the internet suddenly shut off today. Wonder y? Jenny did a lot of troubleshooting but to no avail] However, I managed to get Rainie’s new album before the connection died. Good thing. This album is GREAT. LUV IT A LOT. Love all the songs this time playing it over and over again…… Hhahahahah

Sunday

Today I don’t have much plan out. Did my HW and watch series. In the evening went to our PV cookout. I finally met some other ppl living in PV. And it seems my Chinese is not as bad as I thought. Cool J.

I had some very interesting conversation with other ppl . J I also spend the day finishing configuring my pc.

 

This week is a very good week with my SSN, Laptop and others. Even with the rain I enjoyed the game. Going for the VIP tickets next season. Go to all the games. J

i think i read more than 10 books in the 3 weeks i've been there.

Destination - USA

 

Ok, I know I’m late. By approx. 3 weeks I guess. But …… I’ve just got my pc.

SO , against my better judgement, I’m going to start a blog.( so lazy to keep update)

Ok, so I’ll start with my journey to here.

 

Aug 12

The trip here was fine. Nothing much happened just go up a plane and sleep. That’s my plan. But I did realize 3 things

1)      MAS DOESN’T give out poker cards except to Shanghai and Beijing (huh wats with that?) There goes my plan to play poker and card games . So bad,

2)      Taipei looks amazing at night. The view from the plane was great. Makes me feel like stopping and just stay at Taipei. (note to self: Must go Taipei 1 day)

3)      Contrary to popular belief in my family….. I should NOT sleep when the lights are dimmed in the plane!!!!!!. Hey the plane is still on MALAYSIAN Time. So…… I actually was a little jetlag. Not as bad as last time. This time I couldn’t sleep at night J

I arrive at LA quite late around 7pm LA time after delays at Malaysia and Taipei. I then spend another hour waiting for my luggage. NEXT TIME DON”T CHECK IN EARLY. Your bags will be out LAST.

After that I went to Aunt Jamie’s house and had dinner. Aunt Jamie’s house undergo some renovations since the last time I was here. The floors are resurface and there is now an extra bathroom on ground floor. But 1 thing haven’t changed. The pantry is still well stocked.

That night…. Something pretty funny happened. I went to sleep at around 12. Middle of the night , I woke up and saw my watch showing 6. So I woke up and wash up. I went to the living room and start unpacking my bags. After I finish getting out my stuff, I looked at the clock and wat time is it?   4.30. So it seems that I actually woke up at 3 am but I forgot to change my watch.………………………….wat a joke.

I went back to sleep and woke around 6.30. LA time. Then I resume unpacking and repacking my things. Then Bryan and Sean was sent to school and I Spend the day with Aunt Jamie around. Then we had dinner with Aunty Jennifer. That night I finally finish repacking my stuff. 2 big bags.

That’s was my first day in LA. I made some startling discovery. There is pirated VCD on sale in US. Suprising. They cost about USD 3 per piece and that’s around the same price as Malaysia. Cool right? [the store is near where Uncle Wei Ming works he was on holiday. So didn’t get to pass the stuff I brought to him].

Aug 14

This morning I’m finally going to Purdue. After breakfast with some amazing turkey sandwich……. Aunt Jamie dropped me at the airport. First I have a 4 hour flight to Detroit. I went on the plane and started sleeping until touchdown. I spent another hour waiting for my next flight. I stood next to the windows and aim for my bags. All my clothes are in there. I wanna make sure it is on the plane.

That day I arrive at Purdue quite late. Around 12am. Good thing my roommate is around else I dunno where I’m staying and there will be no one there to help me carry my stuff. So thanks Hitomi. And apparently….. the normal bedsheets can find a twin sized bed. Just stretch a little.

Aug 15.

Today, I went over to Stewart Center to check-in. I finally get my first view of the campus. And it’s nice……… it is not as big as I thought it will be. About 2 times bigger than USM. After checking in, I went to go take care of my banking stuff. then I went out for lunch with Huey Swyu and other Malaysians at McD. After that we went to a senior’s house to talk. The seniors are all very helpful. They gave us a lot of advice. 1 senior(hui yee) also brought us to Wal-Mart.

That night we went to a Mediterranean restaurant for dinner. The proportion of food is big in US.

Aug 16

Today, I had my orientation. So was pretty busy whole day. Nothing much happened. Pretty boring. But I had free food whole day. J

Aug 17

I can no longer remember wat I did today. J but I did know that I had a reception for international student where we get to meet the President of Purdue. I also met a lot of students from China.

Aug 18

I think I took the bus to Wal-Mart again today. Its been too long. I can’t remember.

So that’s my first week in US. Pretty tame. Nothing much happening. J
